About D.W. Field Park Association

Our Mission

To protect, preserve and support D.W. Field Park through volunteerism while promoting a general interest in the Park and its historical and environmental significance through education and social programs.

Our Vision

Our vision for the Park is to balance the natural space between Humans and Nature  while caring for and maintaining the ecosystem that encompasses the wilderness that is a vital part of our own ecosystem.

Our History

In June of 1997 with the support of the City of Brockton Parks Department,  Barbara Shinnick and a few other Brockton residents formed The D.W. Field Park Association with the original purpose was to protect and preserve thew Park from encroachment or destruction and to get community support for placing the Park on the Register of National Historic Places.

For several years signatures were collected at events like  Flag day, Biodiversity Day, Concerts, Trolley Tours, Nature Walks and Arts & Craft festivals all held in the Park as well as the event around the City of Brockton.  Over 2,500 signatures along with a detailed description and history of the Park compiled by Barbara Shinnick were submitted to the Massachusetts Historical Commision and then forwarded to the National Commission of Historic Places in Washingrton DC. Finally on November 24, 2000 the the Park was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today the Association continues its role as stewards and watch dogs  in collaboration with the City of Brockton's Park Department to managing the Park to the wishes of D.W Field and the community.
